Societal acceptance projects
Many projects were undertaken internaly at ECN aimed at analysing acceptance for PVT, Energy management systems.
This project was funded by the European Commission under FP5. Hysociety aimed at creating an actionplan to facilitate the hydrogen economy. In addition the acceptance of industrial stakeholders for this plan was evaluated. Ruth Mourik was Work Package leader and researcher.
The Dutch municipality island of Texel commissioned ECN to develop scenario's focusing on a self-sustainable Texel. Particular attention was paid to best practices in terms of societal acceptance on islands and small communities for similar actions. Ruth Mourik was teamcoordinator and researcher.
In this project funded by the European Commission the influence of culture on acceptane of sustainable energy technologies, sources and carriers was investigated.
A methodology of literatureresearch and empirical case studies led to the development of an instrument (ESTEEM). Esteem allows for the measurement and improvement of acceptance for a sustainability project. ESTEEM was piloted in a CCS, hydrogen, wind, solar and biomass project. Ruth Mourik was project coördinator and researcher.
Transition projects
The Ministry of Housing and Environment commissioned ECN to identify possible visions for a sustainable built environment. Ruth Mourik was researcher.
In a consortium consisting of Shell, Linde-Gas, TNO and ECN the roll-out of a hydrogen refuelling stations infrastructure in the Netherlands was investigated.
First users were identified, including their willingness to shift fuel, make detours to drive to refuelling stations and other issues. Ruth Mourik was team coordinator and researcher.
The Dutch province Flevoland commissioned ECn to identify different niches and roadmaps to a more sustainable energyregime. We used a methodology based on interviews and literature research. Ruth Mourik was coordinator and researcher.
Behavioural change projects
This FP7 European project identified all factors influencing energy consuming behaviour of households and small consumers. This knowledge was translated into a toolkit for programme designers called MECHANISM. Ruth Mourik was Work Package leader and researcher.
